Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a physical office?

I do not provide in-person sessions or have a physical office location.

My practice is completely virtual, so I can meet you wherever you are, as long as you are in a confidential space in California with reliable Internet access.

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is a way of conducting therapy sessions virtually in a secure, HIPAA-compliant manner.

It only requires access to reliable Internet and a device that allows video conferencing.

What are the benefits of teletherapy?

Accessibility and convenience: Do therapy from the comfort and convenience of your home, office, car, or other space that works for you.

Time: You’ll save it when you’re not sitting in traffic or commuting to and from an office.

Cost: Save money on gas and transportation!

How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. I can provide 75-minute or 90-minute sessions (primarily for couples) on a case-by-case basis.
How often will we meet?
We typically schedule weekly sessions. As we prepare to end our work together or move into a “maintenance” mode, I can transition you to twice a month.
Do you take insurance? Why or why not?

I am an out-of-network provider for most PPO health insurances.

Upon request, I can provide you with a “Superbill” to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

If you need a Superbill, you should ask your insurance company about your deductible, when it will be renewed, and your reimbursement rate.

Please note that working without insurance gives you more privacy and agency in your treatment.

How do I set up an initial appointment?
Simply fill out the contact form below. I try to respond within one business day to schedule a 15-minute consultation to determine if we’d be a good fit to work together.
What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If an appointment is canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, I charge the price of our discussed fee.

I charge this fee to reserve our appointment time so it can’t be offered to another client.

Who are your clients? Men? Women?

I’m a marriage and family therapist, but I see men and women individually, too. I treat individuals from a systemic perspective, considering family dynamics and history as a core factor contributing to present issues.

Women make up about half my caseload. Many of my female clients have expressed appreciation for my warm and welcoming presence, and several have told me how working with me has helped them heal from damaging relationships with men in the past.

What will my first session look like?

We’ll explore why you’re here and your expectations for therapy. We’ll also identify treatment goals to zero in on what we’ll address in therapy.

How can I prepare for my first session?

Bring your authentic self! If you are seeking help, I need to get to know the real YOU.

If you don’t know your authentic self, that’s a great place to start!

Have you ever been in therapy?

Yes, I have. I very much believe in the work of therapy. I know how vulnerable it can be to be a client, and I also know how beneficial it can be.

What does pop culture get wrong about therapy?

So many things! I could easily get on a soapbox and rant about the countless misconceptions that pop culture perpetuates about therapy. For example…

I won’t make you lie on a couch (unless you want to). And not every session is a “breakthrough” session. And most TV therapists have really poor boundaries!
